Carotenoderma

Carotenoderma

Carotenoderma refers to the yellow-orange discolouration of the skin due to carotenaemia (a condition caused by increased levels of β-carotene). Initially it presents as yellow-orange discolouration of the nose, palms and soles and then eventually spreads to other parts of the body. The discolouration is harmless and it can be treated by restricting the dietary intake of foods rich in β-carotene. However, if the causative carotenemia is due to an underlying disease, then the underlying diseases needs to be treated too.
