Dopamine is a neurotransmitter secreted in brain. It has many functions: learning, motivation, and control of heart rate, control of blood pressure, lactation, sleep, mood, and attention, control of nausea and vomiting, pain processing and movement. Dopamine can be the reason for many diseases as well for example schizophrenia (increased dopamine: causes hallucinations, delusion), ADHD (decreased dopamine), drug abuse related increase, Parkinson’s (low dopamine causes difficulty in movements). Dopamine can be used as a lifesaving drug: it is used in treating low blood pressure, improving cardiac output and in septic shock.
