How is human papillomavirus (HPV) infection prevented?
Prevention of HPV Infection • Avoid sexual activity to eliminate any skin-to-skin contact. • Use condoms during vaginal/anal sex. Use dental jams during oral sex. Condoms and dental jams do not guarantee HPV prevention. However, they prevent other STDs which indicate safe sex. Safe sex prevents HPV infection to some extent. • Circumcission i.e. removal of foreskin of penis minimizes risk of HPV infection. • Minimize sexual partners. • Get HPV vaccine. • Get tested.
