Treatment of Viral Conjunctivitis Viral conjunctivitis is self-limiting inflammation of conjunctiva which resolves on its own within a couple of weeks. The treatment is mainly supportive to minimize the pain and discomfort in eye. Suportive treatment involves • Cold compresses for comfort • Lubricants for comfort e.g. chilled artificial tears • Topical antihistamines and vasoconstrictors for itching • Topical astringent or antibiotic to prevent bacterial superinfection • Topical ganciclovir in case of corneal lesions in epidemic keratoconjunctivitis
