What is the etiologic relationship between oral contraceptive use and human papillomavirus (HPV)-related malignancy?
One theory is that pills make some hormonal changes in the epithelium which increases the susceptibility and duration of HPV infection. Another reason could be the fact that women on OCP are less likely to use barrier methods such as condoms- that also increases the chance of HPV transmission
Relationship between Oral Contraceptives and HPV Those women are at high risk of developing cervical carcinoma who take oral contraceptives for more than 5 years. However, those women who take oral contraceptives for less than 5 years are at low risk of developing cervical carcinoma.
