Polycystic kidney disease is a genetic condition that leads to multiple clusters of cysts forming throughout a persons kidneys (leading eventually to end-stage kidney disease in later life). In this case the patient required removal of a kidney as the overgrowth of cysts had resulted in intestinal occlusion.
