How does maternal human papillomavirus (HPV) infection affect infant outcomes?
Maternal HPV and Infants • There is no link between maternal HPV and miscarriage, pre-term delivery and other pregnancy complications. • The risk of transmission of HPV to baby is very low before and during childbirth. • In rare instances, HPV can transmit to an infant and cause warts in throat causing Respiratory Papillomatosis. This needs immediate laser surgery to prevent respiratory distress in baby.
