What is the role of imaging studies in the diagnosis of adenovirus-related pneumonia?
Role of Imaging Studies in Adenovirus-related Pneumonia Recommended tests include • Plain radiography • High-resolution CT scan Findings usually include • crazy-waving pattern • lobar infiltrates • diffuse infiltrates • reticulonodular infiltrates Chest radiographs and CT scans reveal unilateral or bilateral focal or multifocal and diffuse or ground-glass opacities in lungs. Findings also include extended airspace lesions in both lungs with bilateral pleural effusions. Parenchymal opacities and ground-glass opacities often lead to consolidation. Ultrasonography is followed by Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) fluid culture.
