Who knows what're the differences between ulcerative colitis and Crohn disases?
Ulcerative colitis is happened just in the colon but the crohn diseases happened to the mouth until the anus all GIT involved
Firstly, the location-As the name suggests, UC affects the colon and rectum, whereas Crohn can affect any segment of the digestive tract. Secondly, the layers affected. UC affects mostly the mucosa, unlike Crohn which affects all the layers. Thirdly, the imagistic and macroscopic aspect: Crohn has normal patches of intestine connected with affected patches. It often leads to many stenosis and dilatations that lead to frequent surgeries. UC affects from distal to proximal.
(1) Crohn>> affecting GIT from mouth to anus but sparing rectum / Ulcerative colitis >> affecting only colon and sparing anal canal. (2) Crohn >> patchy distribution , skip lesion / Ulcerative colitis >> continous pattern of involvement. (3) Crohn>> non caseating granulomatous inflammation /Ulcerative colitis >> non granulomatous inflammation (4) CD >> more in smoker ,/ UC>> more in non , ex smoker , (5) CD>> defect in innate immunity and autophagy /UC >> defect in barrier function . (6) fistula, perforation , abscess more common in CD than UC (7) malignancy more common in UC than CD. (7) CD >>>>> presentation is variable / UC >>> bleeding per rectum is the most common presentation.
Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus. Signs and symptoms often include abdominal pain, diarrhea (which may be bloody if inflammation is severe), fever, and weight loss.
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a long-term condition that results in inflammation and ulcers of the colon and rectum. The primary symptom of active disease is abdominal pain and diarrhea mixed with blood. Weight loss, fever, and anemia may also occur. Often symptoms come on slowly and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms typically occur intermittently with periods of no symptoms between flares. Complications may include megacolon, inflammation of the eye, joints, or liver, and colon cancer.
The differences between ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are: Ulcerative colitis is limited to the colon while Crohn's disease can occur anywhere between the mouth and the anus In Crohn's disease, there are healthy parts of the intestine mixed in between inflamed areas. Ulcerative colitis, on the other hand, is continuous inflammation of the colon Ulcerative colitis only affects the inner most lining of the colon while Crohn's disease can occur in all the layers of the bowel walls
