Let’s begin: If you feel pain in your legs that occurs during your sleeping time, especially at night, we called it “Nocturnal Leg Cramps/Night Leg Cramps”. This is a common lower-extremity condition that is so painful for you and disrupts your sleep. It happens with you because of involuntary muscle contractions in your legs. Nocturnal leg cramps commonly occur in the calf but also can occur in your thighs and feet. Pain due to cramps can last for mere seconds or for several minutes. After leg cramps possess, the muscle soreness may linger for the rest of the night or that whole day. Both men and women can experience this, but most common in adults over the age of 50 and during pregnancy. So, why you get this kind of painful experience and what causes leg cramps? The exact cause of nocturnal leg cramps is often unknown, but potential causes are: (1) Sitting for too long or sitting improperly; (2) Over-exertion of the leg muscles; (3) Standing for too long or walking on concrete floors. What you can do if you get cramps? It’s so simple for you! Straighten your leg; gently massage your calf to relax the muscle. You can put warm towel or hot water bottle to the affected area. What is the treatment or prevention for Nocturnal Leg Cramps for you? (1) Firstly, You need to stay hydrated at all time; (2) Stop drinking too much coffee. Isn't cramps also called claudication? If not...what are is the difference both?
We can call muscle cramps as a claudication when cramping pain occurs in legs with exercise due to poor blood circulation in leg. The common symptom is of a cramp like pain developing in the calf muscles on exercising or walking. The thigh and buttock muscles may also be involved. After a brief rest the pain resolves.
