Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens refers to a severe, acute form of deep vein thrombosis. It is more common in lower extremities as compared to the upper extremities. It is a medical emergency. The thrombus occludes the venous supply. The increased pressure in the compartment results in excessive pressure and consequent compression of arteries and nerves. The result is severe ischemia, gangrene, and hypovolemia. The symptoms of Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens are: - Progressive edema - Cyanosis - Tight, shiny skin - Petechiae or purpura - Severe pain - Motor weakness - Blisters - Bullae - Paresthesia - Gangrene - Loss of distal pulses Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phlegmasia_cerulea_dolens#Primary_symptoms Image via: https://www.grepmed.com/images/489/phlegmasia-clinical-cerulea-dolens-liftl
