What are the consistuents of rotator cuff?
Rotator cuff is the group of muscles that surrounds/ overlaps the shoulder joint. It comprises of four muscles: supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis. These muscles give the shallow shoulder joint support and prevent poping out. Rotator cuff injury is very common and chances increase with age and previous history. It is more commonly seen in people with occupations like painters or carpenters. symptoms include: pain in shoulder, difficulty brushing hair or lifting arm to head level and arm weakness may be felt. Condition is diagnosed mainly by examination but doctor may need imaging such as: x-ray, ultrasound or MRI. Management is pain relief, anti-inflammatory, cold packs and sling and then progressive physiotherapy. Invasive treatments include: intra-articular injections or surgical replacement of joint or tendon repair.
