White vs Red Infarct

White vs Red Infarct

White infarct AKA pale infarct occurs when arterial supply to organ is occluded. Most commonly affected organs are heart, kidneys, and spleen. The pale appearance is also attributed to lack of any collateral blood supply. Red infarct also known as hemorrhagic infarct arises when blood enters the necrotic tissue due to presence of collateral blood supply. Most commonly affected organs are brain, lungs, and small intestine.
