In which cases digital nerve blocks are not performed?
Digital nerve block is a minor and easy to perform procedure that in done in cases of: • Different injuries (like fractures, lacerations, etc) • For different procedures (e.g. infection drainage and wound repair). The procedure involves injecting a regional anesthesia to anesthetize the area locally and specified nerves are blocked using this technique. CONTRAINDICATIONS OF DIGITAL NERVE BLOCK Absolute contraindications: • Digital nerve blocks are contraindicated in following cases: • Patient refuses to give consent • Infection at the injection site • Unsterilized conditions • Allergic reactions to local anesthesia Relative contraindications: • Landmarks can not be appreciated due to distortion or loss of landmarks • Neuropathy of the involved nerve • Coagulopathy
