Coloboma

A coloboma is a hole in one of the structures of the eye, like the iris. Typicaly the coloboma of iris is located in the inferonasal quadrant. They are caused by failure of embryonic fissure to close in the 5th week of gestation, resulting in 'keyhole shaped' pupil. They maybe associated with colobomas of the ciliary body, choroid, retina or optic nerve
