What is the difference between conductive and sensorineural hearing loss?
Hearing loss can be divided into two types: sensorineural and conductive hearing loss. A sensorineural hearing loss occurs by disorders of inner ear. It is the hearing loss that occurs due to nerve disorders and signal is not transmitted to brain. These can be caused by: increased age more then 50, side effect of a medicine, trauma by loud noise, head trauma, genetic defects and caused as a symptom of other diseases. A conductive hearing loss involves outer ear and middle ear. The signal is not transmitted to the inner ear and hence cant be transmitted to brain. It can occur in: ear infections, ear wax, foreign body, perforated ear drum, allergies, osteosclerosis and tumors.
