If the pinna of the ear receives any trauma, a hematoma may develop. this condition is called a wrestler's ear or a cauliflower ear. It presents as swelling or bruising. It is an emergency because the swelling can develop and cut off the normal blood supply of the area. The warning signs are: ringing of ear, hearing loss, headache and blurred vision after a trauma. Management includes: putting cold compress on the injury as soon as possible to prevent swelling, incision and drainage of the hematoma is required. If the drainage is not done quickly the area may become scarred permanently. It will need corrective surgery later on.
