How does Hepatitis B present?
Hepatitis B is a DNA virus from hepadnavirus family. It infects the hepatocytes and causes hepatitis. It causes acute infection and can progress to chronic infections. It presents as a subclinical or flu-like illness. Acute hepatitis is seen as hepatomegaly, jaundice, dark urine and pale stools. Serum sickness like syndrome is also seen, which presents as rash, polyarthritis and fever. Chronic liver disease presents in chronic hepatitis B infection. CLD stigmata is seen. The disease may even present in complications of the disease.
