An very rare illness known as "Rapunzel syndrome" caused nausea and inability to keep any food down in a 38-year-old woman. The ailment is named after a fairy tale princess with very long hair, and it happens when a person has a hairball in their stomach with a tail that extends into the intestines. Trichophagia is a psychological illness in which persons ingest their own hair on a regular basis. Doctors surgically removed two hairballs in the woman's instance. The first, which was discovered in her stomach, was 6 by 4 inches (15 by 10 centimetres) in size and had a short tail that extended into her small intestine. According to the case report, which was published in October in the journal BMJ Case Reports, the second hairball was discovered further down in the woman's small intestine and measured 1 by 1.5 inches (3 by 4 cm).
