Teratomas of ovary are tumours derived from the germ cell layers and can be of 3 types: 1. Benign (mature) cystic teratomas: Composed of mature tissues derived from all 3 germ layers. These tumours contains cystic mass that is lined by epidermis and on cut section they reveal sebaceous secretions, hair, teeth and sometimes bone and cartilage. 2. Immature malignant teratomas: They are usually bulky in nature and differ from benign cystic teratomas by the presence of immature elements on microscopic examination. 3.
