Toothy Brain Tumor

Toothy Brain Tumor

A unusual sort of brain tumour caused teeth to develop in the brain of an infant in Maryland. According to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine in February 2014, doctors were able to remove the tumour and the boy recovered completely. When the boy's skull appeared to expand faster than usual for his age, doctors thought something was wrong inside his brain. A brain scan revealed a tumour containing what seemed to be teeth ordinarily located in the lower jaw. Indeed, when the tumour was removed, several completely grown teeth were extracted as well. While teeth have been seen in tumours before, the sort of tumour taken from the infant's brain — a craniopharyngioma — was not known to contain these unusual features. via LiveScience.

How could they tell it's not a teratoma? They can arise anywhere in the body, did they biopsy to confirm?
