I have heard doctors criticize the arrogance of young physicians with the statement: β€œI have forgotten more than you have learned”. It means that we never stop learning and we have to discard or ignore much of what is taught. Our understanding of medicine and science changes with time. You cannot possibly remember everything you were taught but it is not important that you do. Much of academia is preparing the mind to understand higher concepts. You don’t need to remember the citric acid cycle to practice medicine well but you must remain familiar enough that you can understand what you read. Our learning builds upon itself. You don’t need to remember how you learned to walk because you mastered it and it is now mostly a reflex. Eventually, you depend more on your understanding of how things work than on remembering facts. Some doctors never get to that point. Keep up the hard work you are doing

I totally agree with you. Im just second year medical student and I figure that even I remember all the basic subject such as physiology, biology or anatomy but in the future, when I'll face to a patient I cant use them cho cure my patient. I know they are important but just at this time. Further to the future, well i guess i will completely forget all of them and let my brain remember higher knownledge.
