🌞RADICULAR CYST⚽️🎾⚾️🏈🏀🏉 radicular cyst or periapical cyst is formed by proliferation of epithelial cells (Malassez) in periodontal ligament due to stimulation of this cells by inflamatory mediators around the apex of a nonvital tooth. Radicular cysts are the most common type of cyst in the jaws (60% in upper jaw) around the apex of nonvital teeth. clinic : a protruded mass of hard (bony) tissue inside the bone which grows painlessly. In case of secondary infection, inflamation, rupture or other complications this cyst turn to be painful and infective.some times the big cysts may have a very thin eggshell-like cortex which may break even by palpation if they are exposed in oral cavity. Radiology:mostly epicentric at apex of nonvital teeth or in deep periodontal pockets. An almost 1.5-2 cm round lesion with radiolucent internal structure and radioopac periphery which has usually a well-defined cortical border. Differential Diagnose: *a small periapical cyst can be confused with an apical granuloma. *early stage cemental dysplasia. *a traumatic or surgical defect which has not been fully filled by bone. *odontogenic keratocyst *lateral periodontal cyst. Therapy: tooth extraction, endodontic therapy and apical surgery.usualy surgical removal of cyst is needed. CAVE : after removal we need some post operative controlling x-rays in weeks after surgery to make sure of complete healing of the lesion.
Hi doctor. I have a question if you don't mind. I'm a medical student but many people say that you have a long long distance. Why did you choose dentistry?? Plz explain and put it in comparison to the medicine
Dear friend, medicine is a garden and dentistry is a beautiful tree of this garden. From beginning i was deeply interested in dentistry specially oral surgery. Odontology or dentistry is from beginning separate from other specialties because due to the nature of oral tissues we need to know alot about technology, material and science of dental materials. Apart from this in the history of medicine the dentist had always their own traditions and field. Because of this two reasons dentistry and medicine have two different facilities. If you think you don't want to be an ophthalmologist or surgeon or dermatologist or oncologist or ENT or orthopedist or internist or whatever then choose dentistry. Dentistry is not just medicine it deals alot with material and with geometric features of hard and soft tissue. Dentistry ia a handwork and something we wish to see something else as teeth. So be happy and proud of medicine because you have more options to choose infront of you. If you're a dentist you will be a dentist forever.but if you are a physician you can be anything just like a "stem cell". You can even be a maxillofacial surgeon which needs both of the degrees (DMD and MD) in most of the countries. :)
