Zinc for COVID-19 Treatment Zinc is a micronutrient and possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Limited dose of zinc restores normal immune function and strengthens the immune system. Moreover, zinc has antiviral property. It has the tendency to inhibit the entry of virus by providing stability to cell membrane and inhibits viral replication by disturbing polyprotein processing, protein translation, viral attachment, and genome transcription. Keeping the potential of zinc in mind, there are several hypothesis which demand urgent clinical trials of zinc as supporting treatment in COVID-19 treatment. Currently, there is insufficient data to recommend zinc to COVID-19 patients.
