Vitiligo

Vitiligo

It is an aquired depigmentation disorder of the skin in which melanocytes are lost. It presents with milky white patches on the skin called leukoderma. It is a systemic autoimmune disorder with genetic susceptibility. Treatment for vitiligo is currently unsatisfactory. Repigmentation is mostly successful on face and trunk. General measures should be taken like avoid sun exposure, wear protective clothing avoid cuts, injuries or trauma.

There is currently no cure for vitiligo and no way to prevent the condition. If a person decides to pursue treatment, the aim is generally to restore pigment and prevent depigmentation from affecting more skin.
