Thyroid problems are mainly of two types: Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a condition of thyroid gland in which thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormones. The overproduction of thyroid hormones affects almost all systems of body. The causes of hyperthyroidism are - Grave’s Disease - Subacute thyroiditis - Toxic adenomas - Pituitary gland malfunctions - Thyroid cancer Hypothyroidism is a condition of thyroid gland in which thyroid gland produces very small or no amount of thyroid hormones. The underproduction of thyroid hormones affects all systems of body. The causes of hypothyroidism are - Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis - Surgical ablation - Treatment with radioactive iodine - Lithium
