STAPHYLOCOCCAL SCALDED SKIN SYNDROME

STAPHYLOCOCCAL SCALDED SKIN SYNDROME

Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS), also known as Ritter von Ritterschein disease is a disease of newborns characterized by red blistering on the skin that looks like a burn or scald. It is caused by a bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus which produces protease or the exfoliative toxin that causes the cleaving of desmoglein in the outer layer of skin causing peeling off and blistering of the skin. The skin looks like as if it has been doused with a hot liquid. In many cases, treatment usually requires hospitalization. Burn units are often best equipped to treat the condition. Treatment generally consists of: oral or intravenous antibiotics to clear the infection pain medication creams to protect raw, exposed skin. It says it's a disease of newborns yet this photo is an older child. Does it continue then or can it be treated and cured?

It gets cured. Common in children also. Adults are less likely
