This syndrome is named on the basis of abundant usage of monosodium glutamate (MSG) in Chinese food. The affected. The condition arises secondary to allergic reaction to MSG. However, newer studies have shown no relation between MSG consumption and Chinese restaurant syndrome. The condition may occur due to additives in the food used in restaurants. The affected individuals present with constellation of signs and symptoms: - Chest pain - Flushing - Muscle pains - Headache - Numbness around mouth - Facial swelling - Sweating The diagnosis is based on clinical picture. The diagnosis may be aided by ECG exhibiting tachycardia and abnormal rhythm.
