Psoriasis vulgaris is a common chronic dermatosis of unknown etiology involving neutrophils, dendritic cells, macrophages, and epidermal keratinocytes. It is also called plaque psoriasis due to characteristic plaques on the skin (well-defined patches of red raised skin).It can appear on any area of skin, but the knees, elbows, scalp, trunk and nails are the most common locations. It is characterized by hyperproliferation, inflammation of the skin, demarcated, erythematous, raised plaques with white micaceous scale. The most common form of the disease is plaque psoriasis, in which skin develops scaly, raised red lesions. The presentation of the disease is extremely variable among patients. The treatment goal for psoriasis is to help keep the condition under control. It includes : topical – creams and ointments applied directly to on the skin. phototherapy – the patient's skin is exposed to certain types of ultraviolet light. systemic – oral and injected medications that work throughout the entire body.
