Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva

This is the skeleton of Harry Raymond Eastlack, Jr., a boy who was diagnosed with Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) at the age of 5 years. FOP is a rare disorder of connective tissue where the connective tissues of body like tendons, muscles and ligaments slowly ossify and turn into bone. The condition deteriorates with age and results in restriction of movement due to ossification process. Several surgeries were conducted to treat his condition but it resulted in worsening of his condition. He died at the age of 39 from bronchial pneumonia which was caused from inactivity due to ossification of ribs.
