There are four stages of hair growth: Anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen. 1. Anagen (Growing Phase) This is the first stage of hair growth. It lasts for approximately 5 to 7 years. The anagen stage of hair varies according to the location of the hair. The scalp hair has longer anagen phase than pubic hair and eyebrows. 2. Catagen (Transition Phase) This phase lasts for about 10 days. It is the time when hair separates from the follicles. The follicle shrinks. The hair growth is markedly slowed down during catagen phase. 3. Telogen (Resting Phase) This phase lasts for approximately 3 months. In telogen phase, there is no hair growth. The new hair develops in the follicles. There is no hair fall in this phase. 4. Exogen (Shedding Phase) The hair fall occurs during exogen phase. This hair fall is usually aided by brushing and washing hair. This phase lasts for about 2 to 5 months.
