Mucormycosis in COVID-19 Patients

The Coronavirus infectious disease itself may not be devastating, however, presence of comorbidities and low immunity are major contributing factors in severe disease. Due to impaired immunity in COVID-19 patients, they are more susceptible to superimposed infection. Pulmonary Aspergillosis is common. Mucormycosis, though rare, is also seen in patients with COVID-19. The major predisposing factors of development of mucormycosis in COVID-19 patients are diabetes mellitus, prolonged management of COVID-19 with potent steroids, and extended hospital stay.
