This is an autoimmune blistering disorder involving the conjunctiva. The disease most commonly presents in old age and is twice as commonly seen in women. On immunofluorescence, a linear pattern of antibody deposition can be seen deposited along the basement membrane. Scarring is a frequently observed complication. Treatment includes topical and systemic immunosuppressants along with artificial tears for symptomatic relief. If scarring is significant, reconstructive surgery is required.
