Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless leg syndrome is also known as "Ebkom's syndrome". It affects up to 2% of the population and has a strong familial tendency. It is characterized by an uncomfortable sensation in the legs that is "creepy and crawly" and presents during periods of rest and inactivity. The condition can be aggravated by caffeine intake and is relieved with the movement of the legs. Restless leg syndrome can be a symptom of an underlying condition, such as; peripheral neuropathy, iron deficiency, or uremia. Benzodiazepines and dopamine agonists are helpful in the treatment.
