Albendazole oral belongs to the class of drugs called Anthelmintic drugs, or anti-worm drugs. It inhibits the synthesis of microtubules and glucose uptake in nematodes. Albendazole is mainly effective against pork and dog larvae. It is used for the treatment of cestodal infestations such as cysticercosis and hydatid disease of lung, liver and peritoneum. It also treats fungal infection called microsporidiosis. The side effects of Albendazole includes stomach ache mainly. Other side effects are nausea, vomiting, thinning of hair and headache. Serious side effects include blurry vision, easy bruising, fatigue, stiff neck, throat infection and dark urine. It has no serious interactions with any drug. However, it is important to avoid drinking grapefruit juice when using Albendazole.
