Anterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses

Anterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses

Anterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses (IOL) or Angle Supported Phakic Intraocular Lenses are placed in the anterior chamber of the eye. They are FDA approved and fall in the category of Phakic. Phakic is an implantation of a synthetic lens in the presence of the natural crystalline lens.Angle Supported PIOLs are often made of Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) , an inflexible material. These PIOLs are used to treat myopia, or nearsightedness. These are convex lenses and are monofocal. However, some risks involve possible negative impact on the corneal endothelial lining.
