What is intermittent claudication?
Intermittent claudication is a symptom of an underlying condition. It is mainly the symptom of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). In this condition, a person walks for a limited distance and suffers from pain mainly in the calf of the legs. It is caused by reduced flow of blood in the limb. However, the pain does not last for long and is relieved by resting for short time. The pain is usually located is calf, thigh, feet, hip and buttocks. Upon resting, the pain is in calf and leg only. The skin becomes cold and clammy while the color changes to bluish. The pain is often associate with burning sensation, aching and weakness.
