Bone Micro Anatomy

Bones are the organs of skeletal system of most organism. The bone tissues are the structural components of bones. . Mainly, there are 4 cells of bones tissues : . . 1. osteogenic cells - that can change to chondrogenic cells under low oxygen tension and change the chondrogenic cells to osteogenic cells under high oxygen tension. The osteogenic cells can transform to osteoblasts. . . 2. Osteoblasts are derived from osteogenic cells. They secrete bone matrix and when it is surrounded by its own bone matrix, they decrease the production of bone matrix and become osteocytes. . . 3. Osteocytes are derived from osteoblasts. These are mature bones tissues cells and are housed in their own lacuna (small cavity in which cells are disposed). They have branched processes that extend into bone canaliculi. Osteocytes maintain gap junction between adjacent cells and responsible for nutrition and calcium metabolism. . . 4. Osteoclasts are multinucleated giant cells with as many as 50 nuclei in one cell. They contain numerous lysosomes and mitochondria. The functionality of them is osteolysis (reabsorption of bones). Basically osteoclasts are macrophages of bone tissues.
