Cholesterol gall stones are the most common type of gall stones(cholelithiasis). They may develop if your liver makes more cholesterol than your bile can dissolve.As a result excess amount of cholesterol forms yellow gall stones. They can lead to pain in the upper right abdomen. The pain is aggravated with the intake of food high in fat, such as fried food. Other symptoms include : nausea vomiting dark urine clay-colored stools stomach pain burping diarrhea indigestion If left untreated gallstones may cause complications such as: jaundice, cholecystitis, cholangitis, sepsis, pancreas inflammation gallbladder cancer Usually the gall stones are asymptomatic until the patient experience the pain and gets a proper check up with abdominal CT. Most of the time treatment for gallstones is not required. Sometimes one can pass gallstones without even noticing. If the situation is aggravated surgery is recommended and in rare cases, medication may be used. If you’re at high risk for surgery complications, a drainage tube may be placed into the gallbladder through the skin.
