Ureteric stent, also known as ureteric tube, is a thin tube inserted into the ureter to keep it patent and allow passage of urine from kidneys to urinary bladder. It is inserted via cystoscopy. One or both ends of the stent may be coiled in order to keep it fixated, hence the name JJ stent or double-J stent. Indication of ureteric stent is ureteral obstruction; this obstruction may be due to tumor, retroperitoneal fibrosis, nephrolithiasis. It may also be indicated in case of ureteric calculi. Complications of ureteric stent placement are: -hematuria -urinary tract infection -stent encrustation -stent migration Source Placement and management of indwelling ureteral stents https://www.uptodate.com/contents/placement-and-management-of-indwelling-ureteral-stents#:~:text=Indications%20for%20ureteral%20stent%20placement,or%20renal%20failure%20%5B6%5D.
