Platybasia is characterized by flattening of the skull base and a skull angle- the angle between anterior base of skull and clivus- is over 140°. In platybasia, the floor of the posterior cranial fossa buldges upward. The upper cervical vertebrae may be displaced superiorly and brainstem might be impimged leading to neural deficits. It can be congenital or aquired.
