Colles fracture or dinner fork deformity is a complete transverse fracture of the distal 2cm of the radius. The fractured bone is displaced posteriorly which results in shortening of the radius. This produces a dinner fork appearance due to posterior angulation in the forearm just proximal to the wrist. This fracture results from forced extension of the hand e.g. in slipping or in an attemp to break a fall and landing on forearm and hand in extended and pronated position. Osteoporotic women are particularly vulnerable. Image via: https://images.app.goo.gl/ePwdDLSq4xDmqWDe7 https://images.app.goo.gl/TKTNTf6NMaWSqWVRA
