This is a Stony gallbladder removed from a patient! Surgical removal of the gallbladder is known as "Cholecystectomy". Presence of stones in the gallbladder is termed as Cholelithiasis. CHOLELITHIASIS: •Signs & symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, obesity, elevated blood triglyceride levels, clay coloured stools, dark urine and Crohn's disease are common symptoms. •Causes: It's not clear what causes gallstones to form. Doctors think gallstones may result when: 1)Your bile contains too much cholesterol. 2) Your bile contains too much bilirubin. 3) Your gallbladder doesn't empty correctly. •Diagnosis: Diagnosis is confirmed after the doctor examine patient's gallbladder using Ultrasound, abdominal CT scan, Gallbladder radionuclide scan, blood test etc. •Treatment: Most of the time, you won’t need treatment for gallstones unless they cause you pain. Sometimes you can pass gallstones without even noticing. If you’re in pain, your doctor will likely recommend surgery. In rare cases, medication may be prescribed.
