Digestive enzymes, such as pepsin, often denature as food moves through the different parts of the digestive system. Why does this occur? A-changes in pH often alter the shape of active site. B-changes in pH often alter the shape of the substrate. C-enzymes form previous reactions run out of substrate and stop reacting. D-enzymes are consumed before they reach the next stage of digestion
