Dengue :- Characteristic Presentations :- ( FARM ) • Fever • Arthralgia • Myalgia • Rash • Severe Dengue Infection ( Abnormalities Of Hemostasis - Marked Leakage Of Plasma - Shock - Dengue Shock Syndrome ) Epidemiology :- • Endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, America, The Eastern Mediterranean, South-East Asia And Western Pacific. • Worldwide - 50 Million Cases / Year ( WHO Estimation ) . • Dengue ( Serotypes - DENV - 1, 2, 3 And 4 ) causes two syndromes - Classical Dengue And Dengue Hemmorhagic Fever ( DHF ) . • Agent - Arbovirus ( Flaviviridae ) • Vector - Aedes Aegypti / Albopictus ( Mosquito ) 1. Aegypti - Highly Domesticated, Strongly Anthrophilic, Nervous Feeder ( On more than 1 host to complete one blood meal ) And Discordant Species ( More than 1 feed for the completion of the gonotropic cycle ) . 2. Albopictus - Aggressive Feeder And Concordant Species ( Completes blood meal on 1 feed ) . • Host - Human / Monkey • Transmission - Through bites of infected female Aedes mosquitoes. ( Infected Person's Blood - Fed by mosquitoes - Incubation Period Is 8-10 days after which mosquito is capable of transmitting virus to susceptible individuals for rest of its life ) • Transovarial Transmission To Offspring. • Domestic Breeder ( Endophagic / Endophilic ) . • Environment - Survival at temperature of 16°-30° C and relative humidity of 60-80 % . • Mosquito Breeding Favorable at the places of household water storages and solid waste disposal services. Complications :- • Neurological Complications - Encephalopathy, GBS And Transverse Myelitis • Seizures • Febrile Convulsions • Dengue Shock Syndrome • Liver Failure • Renal - ARF • RS - ARDS • CVS - Myocarditis
