An uncommon, usually benign, glial-neural cortical neoplasm of children and young adults. While DNTs often causing intractable seizures, surgical removal is a common treatment, providing high rates of success. Seizures and epilepsy are the strongest ties to dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors. DNET’s may occur in any region of of the supratentorial cortex, but have a tendency to show up in the temporal lobes. Typical conventional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) features can help in the differentiation from other similar cortical tumors. Diffusion tensor imaging can also provide important additional diagnostic information regarding the degree of involvement of adjacent parenchyma and white matter tracts.
