Normal Kidney Physiology | Proximal Convuluted Tubule

Normal Renal physiology is one of the greatest topics in medicine, yet, very few people understand...In this video, you will learn how the kidney filters fluid (Glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow), as well as the ability of the proximal convoluted tubule to reabsorb and secrete electrolytes and to maintain the acid-base balance of the body via secretion of acid (secondary active transport) and reclamation (reabsorption) of bicarbonate (HCO3). A defect in the proximal convoluted tubule is called Fanconi Syndrome (not to be confused with Fanconi anemia) leading to type-2 (or proximal) renal tubular acidosis (RTA)

The kidney to me is the most interesting and beautiful organ. The kidney was my first love of the human body. I would spend hours learning about the kidney. Even today there are things about the kidney that we do not know. The kidney is so complex and so beautiful, complex, essential, yet so forgotten compared to other organs.
