Why can't dementia be cured?

Dementia is unfortunately not one disease, but a group of brain diseases. They have different aetiologies, thus often can’t be ‘cures’ the same way. But commonly in dementia we see degradation of the brain, which means that we loose brain tissue. The key in dementia research is not to cure dementia, but to prevent dementia from occurring or to stop/slow down the process in an early stage. As the brain is a fascinating ‘organ’, medical science is still in the dark how it exactly works. There is some medication for Alzheimer’s disease, however it seems not to work for everyone and still is only slowing down the disease, but not stopping it.
