Our sophisticated nervous system is the one that allows us to perceive, comprehend, and respond to the world around us. Responsible for the control of the body and communication among its parts. An incredible pattern-matching machine, with billions of neurons, each connecting a thousand other neurons. In the central nervous system, the brain and spinal cord are the main centers where correlation and integration of nervous information occur. Both are covered with a system of membranes, the meninges, are suspended in the cerebrospinal fluid; and are further protected by the bones of the skull and the vertebral column. The peripheral nervous system are the parts outside the brain and spinal cord. It includes the cranial nerves, spinal nerves and their roots and branches, peripheral nerves, and neuromuscular junctions. It’s where bundles of nerve fibers or axons conduct information to and from the central nervous system.
