Encephalocel is a neuronal tube disorder in the presence of projections on the brain membranes and the brain is shaped like a bag through the hole in the skull bone. Encephalocel is caused by the failure of expansion of the nerve tubes during fetal development. Encephalocel can occur behind the head, crown of the head, or between the forehead and the nose. Suspicious causes of this disease are infections, maternal or maternal age factor when pregnant, genetic mutations and dietary patterns are not right during pregnancy.
Prognosis: 50% survival, then a surgery to place it back inside the skull and close the opening, but long term symptoms will persist
